Ted Thompson, a former player and current executive with the Green Bay Packers, was born on January 17, 1953. From 2005 until 2017, he served as the general manager of the National Football League’s (NFL) Green Bay Packers.
On January 14, 2005, former Packers CEO and President Bob Harlan announced his appointment to the position. Mike Sherman, who was also the head coach, handed over the general manager responsibilities to Thompson.
Thompson worked as the Seattle Seahawks’ vice president of operations from 2000 to 2004 before taking the helm as general manager of the Packers.
In his prior employment with the Packers, Thompson held the positions of assistant director of pro personnel in 1992, director of pro personnel from 1993 to 1997, and director of player personnel from 1997 to 1999.
As a linebacker and member of the Houston Oilers’ special teams from 1975 through 1984, Thompson also had a 10-year NFL playing career. In May 2019, Thompson acknowledged that he had an autonomic issue and that was the reason he would no longer be in charge of the Packers’ football operations.

Ted Thompson disclosed on Wednesday that he has had an autonomic issue, which is the main factor in his resignation as the team’s head football coach.
Thompson, who was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame on Saturday night, issued a statement through the Packers regarding his health.
In his interview recently where he disclosed his illness, he said:
“I have been diagnosed with an autonomic disorder,” Thompson said in the statement.”I feel that it’s important to mention that based on the test results and opinions of medical specialists, they feel that I do not fit the profile of someone suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).”
