Wood was born in Ashington, Northumberland in the United Kingdom to Derek Wood and his wife. He shares the same parents with his brother, Luke Wood.
In all formats, he competes for England internationally. He plays for Durham in domestic cricket and has also participated in Indian Premier League games for Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants (during the current campaign).
2015 saw the debuts of Wood in the Test, ODI, and T20 International formats. He competed for England in both the T20 World Cup in 2022 and the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

Mark Wood career
In the MCCA Knockout Trophy match in 2008 against Norfolk, Wood made his county cricket debut for Northumberland.
He participated in three Minor Counties Championships and three MCCA Knockout Trophy matches while playing Minor Counties cricket for Northumberland from 2008 to 2010.
He made his Durham debut in a first-class game against Durham MCCU during the 2011 campaign. In the 2011 Clydesdale Bank 40, he then made his List A debut against Northamptonshire.
Since then, he has played in two more first-class matches, one against Sri Lanka A and one against Scotland in the Clydesdale Bank 40. Wood made his England Lions debut during the team’s 2014 trip to Sri Lanka.
For INR 1.5 crores ($160,000) on January 28, 2018, Wood was acquired by Chennai Super Kings for the 2018 IPL season.
He was purchased by the Lucknow Super Giants in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League competition in February 2022. He was unable to compete, nevertheless, due to an elbow injury.

Olly Stone, who was injured, was replaced by Wood in a three-test tour of the West Indies. He was drafted into the team for the third test at St. Lucia after missing the first two games, both of which England lost.
On day two of the last test, Wood bowled the fastest of any bowler and helped England to a 142-run lead over West Indies by taking five wickets for 41 runs off 8.2 overs in the Windies’ first innings. This was Wood’s maiden five-wicket haul in a Test match.
He was included in England’s team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup in April 2019. Wood recorded his 50th ODI wicket on June 14, 2019, against the West Indies. Wood participated in his 50th ODI game for England on July 11, 2019, in the semifinal matchup against Australia.
James Anderson and Jofra Archer’s injuries forced them to miss the 2019 Ashes series and tour of New Zealand, therefore Wood made his Test cricket comeback in the third test of the 2019–20 tour of South Africa.
