Katie Hobbs Children: Does Katie Hobbs Have Children? – Hobbs announced her candidacy for Arizona’s secretary of state on March 8, 2017.
On November 6, 2018, the Associated Press prematurely declared Gaynor’s candidacy.
Given the closeness of the race, neither Hobbs nor Gaynor declared victory at first. As more votes were counted over the following few days, Gaynor’s lead shrank. On November 16, Hobbs was declared the winner by a margin of 20,000 votes.
Hobbs, who was elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2010, attributes her interest in politics to Emerge Arizona.
She made the decision to run for office because she believed that the government was not listening to the people she helped as a social worker. She campaigns to stop domestic violence.
Hobbs led the minority party in the Arizona Senate, where she was twice elected in 2012.
During his first term as minority leader in 2015, black Senate staffer Talonya Adams complained to Hobbs about racial discrimination, and Hobbs ultimately fired her in part.
Adams filed a discrimination lawsuit after being fired in November 2021, and it was settled for $2.75 million.
In October 2020, she announced that she would run for governor of Arizona in the general election of 2022. The current term of Governor Doug Ducey will soon expire.
Although she skipped the debate, she defeated Marco A. Lopez Jr. to win the Democratic nomination.
Hobbs decided not to debate Kari Lake in order to stop her from using the discussion to advance election fraud. Hobbs prevailed over Lake.
According to Hobbs, the Election Assistance Commission (EAC) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security advised her that it was impossible to determine whether the voting machines the county turned over in response to the Senate subpoena had been compromised and that Dominion Voting Systems should re-certify them for use in the future.
The county spent over $20,000 to lease other machines so that two local elections could be held while the subpoenaed machines were in the hands of the Arizona Senate’s contractor, and the costs of re-certifying the surrendered machines after their return would be in the six figures.
During the Gubernatorial elections in Arizona, Hobbs had 1,276,937, representing 50.3% to defeat her closest competitor from the camp of the Republican party, Kari Lake who had 1,259,688, representing 49.7%.
