Biography About IIkay Gundogan
Gündoğan was born to Turkish parents in Gelsenkirchen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. IIkay’s grandfather on his father’s line stayed in Balikesir in Turkey but moved to Germany to work as a miner.
In 1979, the rest of his family joined him in Germany’s family unification including Gundogan’s father. Gündoğan has been very hard-working when it comes to football. He moved from club to club; from VfL Bochum to FC Nürnberg, from FC Nürnberg to Borussia Dortmund, and to Manchester City.

Gündoğan has been playing for the German national team since 2011. He was part of the 23 squads for the 2012 Eufa Euro cup. Due to injuries, he could not join the team in the 2014 Brazil World FIFA World Cup which Germany emerged as the champions. He was also part of the squad for the 2018 Russia World Cup.
Gündoğan is now representing his country, Germany in the 2022 Qatar World Cup. He scored the opening goal for their first match against Japan.
