Porter Robinson is a $20 million net-worth American DJ, record producer, musician, and singer. Porter Robinson’s debut studio album, “Worlds,” was published in 2014. He was named MTVU Artist of the Year in 2015, and he has appeared on the “DJ Mag” Top 100 DJs list for seven years in a row.
Describe Porter Robinson’s Artistry
Porter Robinson‘s early influences included video game music, including Dance Dance Revolution. He is a big fan of anime and Japanese culture, and he mixes it into his songs. He has indicated that he first sought to mimic the music he heard in Japanese games, which led to him producing and subsequently playing as a DJ.
Throughout his Language Tour, Robinson grew increasingly dissatisfied with the current dance music culture, built on formulaic tracks with timed buildup and beat drops designed to excite people at festivals and clubs. Robinson once said, “The more I forced myself to work within those DJ-friendly limits, the more I resented the genre.”
He then spent the following year or so developing a new album and live show, stating, “…when I do change the style of my show into the live thing I’m going to do later this year, I want the shift in focus to be clear.”
Due to his sadness, Robinson did not release or record any new music in 2015, which he later reflected on in his second studio album, Nurture. Due to his despair, he claimed that the lyrics of Nurture were about his battle to create and feel proud of the music he was producing.
He revealed how he used to struggle with writing music in a letter to his followers, and how he overcame that difficulty. “I realized I shouldn’t write music with the expectation of productivity or achievement, but rather with the hope that my honest expression will move people the way music moves me.”
