Former American professional footballer, Devin Devorris Hester Sr. was born on November 4th, 1982 in Riviera Beach, Florida in the United States of America.
Hester was born to Juanita Brown and Lenorris Hester Sr. They separated when Hester was just a toddler. His mother suffered several injuries as a results of a car accident she was involved in whiles his father died of cancer after two years just after his mother’s accident.
Hester’s stepfather Derrick Brown and brother Lenorris Jr. introduced him to football in order to help him recover from his sadness and start over in life. He quickly got back to his regular routine and started doing well in school and athletics.
Hester enjoyed following the Dallas Cowboys when he was little. Michael Irvin, Emmitt Smith, and Deion Sanders were among his favorite athletes.
During the time of Michael Jordan and Phil Jackson, he was a supporter of the Chicago Bulls as well. Hester’s favorite athlete was Fred Taylor, a Florida Gator. He liked watching baseball and playing soccer in addition to football.
Hester played football as a cornerback, wide receiver, return specialist, and running back at Suncoast High School after attending Palm Beach Gardens High.
Parade named Hester to their All-American team, while SuperPrep.com deemed him the #1 high school prospect in Florida.
Hester took part in the 2002 CaliFlorida Bowl as well, where he returned a kick for a touchdown of 80 yards. His teammates gave him the moniker “Sugar Foot” as a result of his performance.
Hester became a wide receiver and a return specialist in the National Football League(NFL). He was the first and only player to return the opening kick of the Super Bowl back for a score and is largely recognized as the greatest return specialist in NFL history.
The Chicago Bears selected him in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft. At Miami, where he played college football, he became the only athlete in recent memory to participate in all three facets of American football: offense, defense, and special teams.
Over the course of his 11-season NFL career, Hester also played for the Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, and Seattle Seahawks in addition to Chicago.
Hester was first selected as a cornerback, but he rapidly distinguished himself as a kick returner before switching positions to wide receiver. He currently holds the NFL record for both the most punt and return touchdowns in league history.
