Daniele Orsato is a professional referee born on 23rd November, 1975 in Montecchio Maggiore, Vicenza, Veneto, Italy.

When he was a kid, Daniele Orsato was extremely interested in how “lights turned on” and his aim was to become an electrician. Orsato studied at the Trissino vocational training center at CFP professional training center in Italy. The referee career was a suggestion of his friend. He enrolled in a football referee course on a lark. 

Orsato became a FIFA referee in 2010, that was when he received his Fifa international refereeing badge. His refereeing mentor is Luigi Agnolin who refereed the 1988 European Champions Club final between PSV Eindhoven and Benfica. 

He was part of the referees who officiated in the qualifying matches for the 2014 World Cup and Euro 2012. Orsato was the main referee in the group stage matches of the 2012/2013, 2013/2014, and 2014/2015 UEFA Champions League competitions.

He gave out 10 yellow cards (6 for Manchester United and 4 for PSG) and sent off Paul Pogba in the 89th minute.

In 2020, Orsato was awarded by IFFHS as the best referee of that calendar year. He also officiated the second leg of the 2021 UEFA Champions League semi-final between Chelsea and Real Madrid.

On 20th November 2022, Orsato was appointed as the referee for the opening match of the 2022 FIFA World Cup between hosts Qatar and Ecuador.
